Prior to this notorious week in Seattle's history, many anit-WTO organizations advertised it as the "Protest of the Century". Though the labor strikes in 1913, in Seattle were much larger and included the murder and deaths of many people on each side, the WTO protests in Seattle are still very significant. Despite, reports of police brutality and harassment, the protests for the most part can be considered to be a miraculous success from a protesting standpoint, for no other reason than the fact that two weeks previously no one had ever heard of the WTO. Now, after all the zealous media coverage WTO, and the so called 'Battle in Seattle', are household names. Worldwide people have heard, watched, and read about the event and have probably taken the time to educate themselves about what the WTO is and why so many people are upset with it. Which is exactly why the Seattle Rounds were so important to concerned organizations. Since it was the first time the WTO had met on US turf, a large protest would get guaranteed coverage. In support of that self-education, here are some links to sites that might help you in that quest of understanding just why this event seemed so important to sooo many people. --Links-- Most of the links from the time have since been taken offline.
